There is a new and financially devestating scam which has reared it's ugly head in Hillsborough County.

This scam is ATM Skimming where a card reading device is attached to a to an ATM location without the consent or approval of the bank owning the machine.

The reader is usually attached late at night and only remains for a few hours, just long enough to obtain several of the pin numbers from unsuspecting customers. Once the information is obtained, money is fraudulently withdrawn from the person's account. The bank of course cannot be held responsible since there is no proof that the customer did not willingly give the pin number to someone else.

It is the responsibility of the cardholder to be extremely alert when using an ATM in order to not fall prey to these vicious criminals who stop at nothing to steal your hard eard money.

I have attached a PDF file to this alert which you can read and familarize yourself with these devices so you can recognize them and report them to the proper authorities before using the ATM. STAY ALERT. STAY SAFE.
